Häfele small-space solutions utilized in tiny homes program geared towards establishing affordable housing
Burlington, ON. (December 9, 2021) – Häfele Canada, a global leader in hardware solutions and fittings for residential and commercial applications, has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin (Habitat HMD) on the not-for-profit’s Tiny Home pilot program. This creative solution, in partnership with the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nations, will help increase the available housing stock for their community.
Habitat HMD has partnered with a number of brands including Häfele Canada to outfit five tiny homes as a first step to establishing affordable housing options for Canadian communities in need. The Tiny Home Village will be fully site serviced and operated by the Chippewas community as part of their housing strategy to increase their available housing stock.
In collaboration with the Halton District School Board (HDSB), over 100 students in secondary school skilled trades classes will have hands-on experience of building units designed by True North Tiny Homes Inc. as part of the high school curriculum.
“We are extremely proud to support Habitat for Humanity’s Tiny Home pilot program. Although Häfele is a global company, it is important for us to give back to our local communities in the Canadian market,” said Earl Ducharme, President and Managing Director of Häfele Canada. “It was a no-brainer to come on board with this initiative as Häfele offers products specific to tiny home living. Together with Habitat for Humanity, the Halton District School Board and several other brand partners, we hope to make a difference by supporting the steps to establish affordable housing.”
The company, which provides hardware solutions and innovation to the furniture, kitchen cabinet, architectural millwork and hospitality industries, believes in developing close ties with local communities through charitable organizations. Häfele Canada is proud to support the local community via the Tiny Homes Pilot as a Gift-in-Kind partner, providing a substantial donation of building products including Häfele Wall Beds, mattresses, SmartCab base cabinet pull-outs, decorative hardware, wood moulding, and installation tools at a value of over $55,000.
“As part of the vision to provide a world where everyone has a decent place to live, we’re addressing the deep inequalities across our society, bringing the affordable housing crisis to the forefront,” said Eden Grodzinski, CEO, Habitat HMD. “Habitat’s partners power our work and this initiative wouldn’t be possible without the generous donations like that of Hafele’s. Their investment – supplying crucial elements to build these Tiny Homes – is allowing us to expand our impact within First Nations Communities.”
Häfele, a company with operations in over 150 countries, has significant experience in the realm of small-space design. Häfele America Co. recently collaborated with NYC designer Michael Chen to create a 12×16 ft micro-housing concept apartment to showcase Häfele’s comprehensive product line of furniture fittings, lighting, hardware, and living solutions, which now serves as the New York showroom. Another impressive small-space build is the Häfele Functionality Cube, a multi-functional cube designed and built by Häfele to achieve the comforts of a large home in just 420 sq. ft., with configurations for cooking, eating, working, living and sleeping.
