February 8, 2023 (Ottawa) The Ottawa Wood Solutions Conference is back – in person – on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the Shaw Centre (Level 2), located at 55 Colonel By Drive in Ottawa.
The Wood Solutions Conference is a valuable educational event and industry trade show created to meet the needs of a diverse audience of design and construction professionals. The presentations range from inspirational to technical, with sessions featuring Indigenous architecture, wind and earthquake resilient design, new code provisions for Encapsulated Mass Timber Construction (EMTC), tall wood costing, and designing for constructability.
The conference organizers are pleased to present a program of more than a dozen expert presenters that includes international guest speaker Fabia Baumann, a structural design engineer and timber expert from Henning Larsen (Denmark), who will be sharing her firm’s insights into designing with wood and other bio-based materials as published in their recent book, Plant a Seed.
Also featured at the conference is Dr. Pierre Quenneville, professor of timber design at the University of Auckland and the Chief Technology Officer at Tectonus, who will be discussing seismic solutions for resilient wooden buildings. Dr. Quenneville’s presentation will be offered in both English and French.
Globally, the growing prevalence of wood construction is the result of many factors. For one, wood’s superior environmental characteristics are directly in line with the drive towards lower-carbon construction solutions. In addition, technical advancements in engineered wood products, the growing utilization of mass timber in the marketplace, and updated building codes that permit taller and larger wood structures have enabled and encouraged designers to explore new ways of building with wood.
