Turning Buildings into Carbon Sinks with Chris Magwood, Director, Builders for Climate Action
Can buildings become sites of durable carbon storage? The answer is yes, but the accounting for stored carbon needs work and the most promising materials are not yet mainstream. This presentation shows us how we can address all of these issues.
About the presenter:
Chris Magwood has been designing and constructing buildings with regional bio-materials for 25 years. He is currently directing the work of Builders for Climate Action.
First Nations Architecture of the BC West Coast with Dave Kitazaki Architect, AIBC, dk Architecture
This presentation will focus on architecture for and with First Nations. Truth and Reconciliation is an essential conversation in architecture. dk Architecture will share their vast experience on award winning projects that have responded to, and have been cultivated from, unique qualities of the surrounding environment and people living in the communities. Dave will highlight that thoughtful design requires a focus on engagement, Inclusion, respect, education and honour and provide insight into how this can be achieved.
About the Presenters:
Dave grew up in Kamloops, BC and is a member of the Xaxl’ip (Fountain) First Nation. Dave has 31 years of experience in the architecture industry and is an award-winning architect. Dave has completed a diverse range of successful projects ranging from First Nation Cultural Centres, health centres, water treatment plants, hi-rise residential buildings, pedestrian bridges, and the highest LEED Platinum project in the world.
Presented by the Canadian Wood Council and its Wood WORKS! programs across the country, this conference is designed for all project team members, including architects, engineers, contractors and builders. This event is an opportunity for professionals within the design and construction community to learn about new emerging products/resources and earn continuing education credits.
